Guests Judge Gregg Maxon, Tempe Judge pro tem and a retired Army Brigadier General is joined by Patricia George the lead prosecutor in the City of Phoenix Veterans Court which is the largest single jurisdiction veterans court in the country. They discuss how the Veteran’s Court works to reduce the recidivism rate for Veterans who transition from military to civilian life and face criminal justice issues because of the challenges of that transition
The Veterans Court Mentor Project was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Veteran’s Department of Veterans’ Services. It is part of the Veteran’s Donation Fund established by A.R.S. 46-108 to enhance Arizona’s mission in serving Arizona’s veterans.
Many veterans who come home after their deployment find transition to civilian life can be rife with isolation, anxiety and even post-traumatic stress. That’s why Phoenix set up a special veterans court working with veterans, rather than against them.
