Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care administers the public behavioral health system as the Regional Behavioral Health Authority for Maricopa County and a small part of Pinal County. I work to ensure that veterans who are enrolled with us are getting the services they need and that the court is requesting.

I also set up evaluations for veterans who don’t qualify for services with the Veterans Administration and if we think the veteran might have a mental health diagnosis. If the veteran is determined to have a serious mental illness (SMI), I follow their treatment and collaborate with their clinical teams. Those who aren’t determined to have SMI may qualify for general mental health or substance abuse services through the RBHA.

My main job is to ensure people are connected with appropriate, high-quality behavioral health services that enable them to recover and reach their goals. I do the same with our members in other courts, including determinations of mental competency in Maricopa County Superior Court and the Juvenile Transfer Offender Program (JTOP). Mercy Maricopa also oversees the crisis system, which serves everyone in Maricopa County.

Mercy Maricopa is invested in helping veterans:

  • Through our provider network, we offer our members many of the same services as the VA.
  • Our providers offer navigators and peer mentors to help veterans and their families find their way through the behavioral health system.
  • We are part of the national initiative to hire 200,000 veterans by 2020.
  • We participate in the “Give an Hour” program, which provides free mental health services to U.S. military personnel and families affected by the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
